L-arabinose, also known as gum aldose or pectinose, is a pentose with the formula C5H10O5. In nature, L-arabinose rarely exists in the form of monosaccharides, but usually combines with other monosaccharides and exists in the form of heteropolysaccharides in colloid, hemicellulose, pectinic acid, bacterial polysaccharides, and some glycosides. Its stability to heat and acid is high.

L-arabinose, as a low-calorie sweetener, is widely found in the husk of fruits and whole grains, because it can inhibit the activity of sucrose enzyme in the human intestine, and thus has the effect of inhibiting sucrose absorption. In addition, L-arabinose can also inhibit the accumulation of body fat, so it can be used to prevent and treat obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and other diseases.
